ROKAF Major Ra Chang-jun has been selected as the Hero of April.

Born on January 7, 1928, Lt. Col. Ra served as a pilot of the Republic of Korea Air Force's first fighter, the F-51D Mustang, starting in June 1951,

and successfully completed a total of 57 combat sorties.

He played an active role in various air operations, including disrupting enemy supply lines.

On April 5, 1952, during a bombing mission on the Songlim Steel Works in Hwanghae-do Province,

he was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire over Jinnampo, South Pyongan Province, and was killed in action.

In recognition of his heroic service, the government posthumously promoted him one rank to Major and awarded him the Chungmu Medal of Military Merit.
