ROK Army Major Kim Wang-ho has been selected as the Hero of the June.

Kim served as the commander of the 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division.

On September 28, 1952, when Hill 748 (known as “Bloody Ridge”)—a key defensive position north of Yanggu in Gangwon Province—was captured by Chinese forces,

Captain Kim infiltrated the enemy’s rear defenses on October 2.

His company stealthily maneuvered behind two Chinese companies holding the main position and played a crucial role in recapturing the hill.

For his bravery, Captain Kim was awarded the Hwarang Order of Military Merit on October 21,

1952, and the Chungmu Order of Military Merit on January 3, 1953. 

On June 22, 1953, he was killed in action during a battle in the Kimhwa region of Gangwon Province.

In recognition of his valor, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of major.
